it's still post-operative exam day. i bet all of you with blogs know why this is so addictive. it's like on-line purgative and diary and memory of the day and a general wonder of i wonder who actually reads this kind of a fetishism. anyway, so, i had an iced cappuccino with terminalis today, and we were wearing the exact same dentistry hoodie, eliciting, once in a while, of "you guys look so cute!" at our post-operative bbq on the loading deck, and us skipping down the halls...aawwwww!!!!....well, practically everyone wore their dentistry gear today. katzis said it's a good pick-up tool for girls...(future possible wife of bling bling, i guess). hmmmm....i regret not getting the thong...
anyway, iced cappuccino turned out into a long drawn out run-down of things that have happened, and other things i can't write here, and muddling around imprint and the pharmacy and the bookstore because we have to bind these massive oral histology atlas things we've been drawing over the past year (well, few weeks, at least). i finally got myself to the library, settled into a nice chair in a nice sunny corner (incidentally, near this japanese-esque man who lives in my building, and i'm guessing, is a professor or something or other - but his face strikes me as being SO kind), and then fell asleep, woke up, and fell asleep, and woke up, and i was SO tired, SO exhausted that i could hardly open my eyes and i felt how puffy and baggy they were without even a mirror and my skin was all dry and crackly from the wet-dry-wet-dry weather and i felt all amalgam-y, so in order to gain some energy i decided "let's go shopping!". so i went to masonville to buy some moisturizer. so off i went, and chatted with daryl a while, and caught a wellington bus going the other way, because i thought it would loop around somewhere on campus, but it DIDN'T, so i got off at the gates (i presumed it was heading downtown, where i didn't want to go), and caught a richmond going north, transferred again to the right wellington, and visited the lancome counter, because they were having a bonus. until now, i've been a bit of a label snob, buying moisturizers and products from the big conglomerates that are silently elitist and don't do the bonus thing, like aveda, or prescriptives, kiehls, or philosophy, but today i wanted something extra, to (in a material way) soothe my operative-frazzled nerves, and went to the lancome counter. they ALWAYS have bonuses. the woman who so wonderfully told me about the magic properties of each product looked a lot like our saliva prof, McCarthy. foregoing a matifying (meaning drying) moisturizer, i bought some intuitif or intensif or intricatif or something -atif and received a happy pink little bag filled with little goodies i know i'll never use...yaaaaaaaay!!!!
the next part of my non-studying adventure...LOBLAWS! food is always fun. i feel so good now, because my fridge and kitchen is now embellished with wonderful things to eat. i got these two-bite blondies, and they are just like the chocolate kind but blond and filled with caramel goodness...not hard or crunchy but smooth...and although it's like eating a bready-kind of sweet hunk of lard with smooth caramel inside, it's such a small hunk of lard that it can't really do anything to you, in the short term. fat, i've read, takes a while to gain as a poundage currancy (not that long, for me, unfortunately). to go along with that, there is Ben and Jerry's chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream (both former items on sale, my lucky day), and there's frozen PC pad thai in my freezer. i got the requisite fruit, bananas and pineapples and strawberries - i wanted grapes too but they looked kind of dead - some soy vanilla and chocolate pudding, three cans of the more interesting campbell's soups...and yes, i've been holding out...i bought...potato egg salad, a bit of this marinated mussel salad...and 20 BUCKS WORTH OF BBQ'd RIBS!!!!!!!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahhhhahahahaaa!!!!!
ah...but there is method to the madness. UCC and most icky food places are now closed most of the time, because the icky undergrads are done school. my food choices, it seems, are starbucks and the spoke (ugh) and tim hortons. my taxicab driver from loblaws asked me why i wasn't finished school yet, and so i had to mumble out something about how i was in dentistry and our school year is longer - i wish i could've lied and thought of a more simple answer, but after a minute or so, he asked me whether i knew "shim...shim...shimizu?" and i said "YES!" and it turns out that shimizu moved his mandible forward back in october/november. he says shimizi is a nice guy, and i said yes, yes he is, and very smart did you know he's a doctor and a dentist? and he said wow no, and that he didn't take care of his teeth when he was young and how he had to replace everything, now that he was old, but after the surgery (well done) he felt much better, and all the while he was talking to me he was looking at me and now that i think of it he must have had an intuitive sense for the state of things on the road, and anyway, he asked me if i know foley, and i said orthodontics? and he leaned over (while driving) and showed me his braces. glint! the glint of metal. it was kind of funny to see a middle-aged man with an eastern accent sporting braces. and he said Dr. El-B-something (i don't know how to spell it) was just beautiful, and wondered whether she might marry him, and i laughed and said that next time he should ask...and he laughed too...and stated that almost anything is possible these days, but he was referring to the state of medicine and dentistry, not dr. what-it-is. it is quite amazing, that a mandible might be moved (meaning, skin opened up, stuff ground out or chopped away, bone substitute put in or bolts and screws inserted, and sewn all back up...he looked absolutely normal, no scars). anyway, he has an appointment on monday, asked me my name, and said see you maybe monday. i took my groceries out of the trunk and went upstairs. and came back down, to check my mail, then the elevator was stuck at 8, it wouldn't come down, so i run up 9 flights and on the ninth flight, nearly died of leg exhaustion. aaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!
i wish the night were longer. i've just sort of finished my histology book, and i didn't do as much oral physio as i wanted to today, and now i'm so awake, so in the moment and comfortable. why, why am i not tired at night, but tired during the day???
someone give me an answer. okay. bye bye.
