sometimes i wonder what the heck i'm doing going to loblaws to buy unsalted butter and confectioner's sugar and vanilla extract and nutella when the whole body of oral histology needs my immediate attention. it was my intention, this morning, to go straight home, have lunch, have a shower, have a nap, and then spend the afternoon and evening studying oral histology, ending the night by making a brief appearance at the phoenix for an "anti-valentine's day" par-tay...i haven't been feeling like clubbing for the last little while, but i think i need to go to this, if not by principle, because i am taking an anti-valentine's day stance. do not show me those cute puckering couples! do not show me those valentine-o-grams! hide your candy! hide your lovey-dovey faces! no PDA's no!!! no!!! no!!!! i want none of it! aaaaaaaaaah!!!!!
instead of following my intricate plan of extreme discipline and appalling Geek, i took the 13 Wellington with Jean-vieve (say in a deep dark french accent) because she had to pick up some groceries for her specially planned dinner with Noel. Not only is this girl cooking dinner for her man, she HAND-SEWED him like a BODY PILLOW out of RED SATIN...if that doesn't spell L-O-V-E then i'm on C-R-A-C-K. anyway, genevieve is making Noel a dinner that includes Potato and Leek soup, from scratch (my kinda girl). we went to find leeks first, which are vegetables and found in the vegetable section, for those of you who thought leeks were what happened when you laugh too hard when you really have to pee simultaneously. duh. So, like loblaws is generally more expensive than, say, price chopper or el-cheapo-mart, and each leek (each looks like a giant green onion) is a whole big two bucks and ninety-nine cents. EACH stupid leek. and in my opinion, leeks don't even taste like $2.99 - some foods, like tiramisu, taste their worth, and are worth their cost (in my opinion)... ;p
anyway, for the rest of the shopping trip, genevieve keeps saying "those stupid leeks! $2.99! those stupid leeks! $2.99!" which makes me break out into fits of laughter in aisle 4 and 3. we went back and forth and back and forth looking for creme fraiche and heavy cream and sour cream and ricotta cheese and cannelloni and lemon butter dill sauce. it was funny, you could tell who was cooking for their loved one tomorrow night. there was a guy picking up whipping cream (maybe not for dessert but for, ah hem, "dessert"? aaaaaahahahahhahhhahahhahaha!!!!!!) and little steaks, porcini mushrooms, some cheeses. well-groomed guy, looked like he knew what he was doing. there was another red-headed guy, who looked utterly lost and held in his dear little hand a 6-pack of valentine's day cupcakes decorated with fluorescent pink frosting and red, i don't know, jelly beans, i guess. i hope he does the right thing and takes her out for dinner.
back to our jeanvieve. in addition to mussels and stupid $2.99 leek soup for noel, she wanted to get a cake for him. Initially, she was looking at these small cakes - a cherry and a chocolate mousse, i think...like, maybe 4 inch diameter. but there was such a HUGE assortment of HUGE cakes, and somehow between us analyzing what cake was worth it and what looked good and what looked like it would taste good, i think i might have convinced her getting a very large tiramisu cake was the better option for an entire weekend with noel. seriously, there was this cake that was made entirely with cadbury's chocolate, another one made with like turtles, rockyroad, amazing glossy shiny things with dazzles and spatzles and sparklies everywhere...white chocolate, dark chocolate, milk chocolate chocolate chocolate chocolate waaaaaaaaaaah i'm going craaaaaaaaaazy!!!!!!! out next little fiasco involved the increasing price of roses everywhere...loblaws had a reasonable deal for roses, but gen said that masonville had like a dozen roses for 15 bucks, which is a really good deal. so, we packed our food into our backpacks, genevieve balanced one bad in one hand and the huge cake box in the other, and that was just so ridiculous that i was laughing helplessly and we trudged over snow and cold and winter and freezing to masonville, entering through the bay, where i couldn't even stop at the christian dior counter although i wanted to...and my trapezius was hurting and genevieve's wrist was sore from the weight of the tiramisu and we looked like the biggest poohead walking through the bay with loblaws bags full of food and this little girl balancing a cake in one hand...
so, now i'm home. apparently porage ate so much food that he was nearly sick. me and genevieve met him and bighead at the bus stop. all you can eat fish and chips, apparently. jesh pointed him out sitting down inside sears, and he looked like so unhappy and on the verge of throwing up. he couldn't even stand up straight, and i didn't punch him in the stomach although i was so tempted to, cause he really did look unhappily full...aaaaaaaaaaaaahahahhhhahahahahahahahaaahahhhaa!!!!
anyway, happy valentine's day, kids. have a good one.
