TIRED! every night since montreal (well, there have only been two), not enough sleep, and dead tired for most of the day. ugh. that's how i feel, like a slug, or a bug. ugh. my entire class has been tired, and our occlusion professor, Dr. Charles, even congratulated us, somewhat, on monday morning for "flying with the eagles" when we had been up with the owls all night long....it's an army reference, apparently. a neat one.
but the fun part is, i stole some montreal pics from jesse and billy (yeah, i don't have a digital cam.... boo hoo) and some people sent me some pics, so i put them up. it's not as smooth and beautiful as billy and jesse's site, but you may notice these pictures focus solely on me, and i'm in every single picture, so there. that's why it's on MY PHOTO ALBUM!!! HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!
sigh....just kidding. i'm not that egocentric. work and studying goes so slow....but time goes so fast....i don't understand it....i need to put some speed on, but i don't quite know how.....the study material, these days, requires time and repeated reading...and practical parts require a lot of time...and practice, and set up, and drilling....and yet, i still refuse to devote every minute of my night to reading about oral surgery, and instead, i swoop down on jesse's site to co-opt some pics...(heehee...sorry jesse....), and bake things like cannelloni and chocolate crumble cake. i did that, for instance, last night, instead of really focusing on next day's removable quiz. today was interesting, however. we started designing partial denture frameworks in removable today, and i found that particularly interesting...even picked up a text on it today. i think it's cause...i feel like i'm actually creating something. i noticed that i've been drawn to crafts lately....i just started a new stamping hobby (don't ask - it has to do with glitter and stamps and glue and colored paper), and over christmas i became obsessed with crafting these miniature boxes that i gave to my friends as presents...and my friend, who is in architecture, has to design an art gallery, and i was so jealous because i sorely wanted to cut some stiff board and fashion a building out of it...today's ortho pedo class with Dr. Friedman was quite interesting too - it was about management and behaviour of children (and parents)...and something about the intermingling of Jung and dentistry and the complexity of patient management (not really from the practial dentistry/drilling viewpoint) made me go hmmm....i really like this stuff.
more montreal memories...
being in montreal reminded me, once again, of all the cultural things i miss while at school. i'm missing four years of 10 dollar tickets to the TSO symphony and the opera, rush seats to the ballet, all the plays and independent performances in toronto's smaller theatres...i know those things will always be around...and mahler's fifth can always be heard on CD, but really, there is no substitute for hearing and seeing it live, and art is a living art form...performances change, and you change, and how you perceive things change, and more than four years of not being very active, as an attendee, of music and theatre makes me feel less creative, somehow. a little less inspired. the tso has brahms and wagner this week.
i was in the library today, and sort of nodding off, and this guy sitting at my table, whom i didn't know, swiftly tried to put this yucky piece of paper on my pencil case...it was oil blotting paper, and the girl sitting next to him, his friend, had apparently used it to blot the oil off her face. i can kind of see the humor in it...a stranger you don't know wakes up next to a piece of disgusting used oil blotting paper your friend used....but i was very irate - it's disgusting, it's unhygienic...and so i exchanged a couple of words with him, eventually asked him whether he wanted his piece oil blotting paper back, whereupon he kind of sheepishly picked it up, and left the table. it was a rather comical situation, i think, i see the possible humor in it, but it bugs me because i was so courteous. you know, no swearing, no dirty looks. i was kind of curt, but that's about all. there's no reason to be rude, right? no need to berate him? it just makes me mad, because i can't quite comprehend ever doing anything like that - not that the deed was heinous or anything - but it was disrespectful, stupid. i couldn't do that.
another long day tomorrow.
