yikes! what day is it???

i love summer. i feel like i did when i was younger...much younger...and i didn't have to do anything, and i could just go out to play every single day and not think about anything else except (writing the american boards, clinic work) the games of the next day...

last night, i saw the movie mean girls. it was showing at the the little film place in our school, so it wasn't like blasting 12 bucks on a really stupid flick. actually, i thought mean girls was going to be intolerably stupid (but i was in the mood for something really fluffy), but a lot of the characters were from SNL, and apparently Tina Fey wrote it, and this stupid chick flick turned out to be a smart, funny little movie. twas funny. then, i went rollerblading in the dark. i am convinced that i am quite a speed demon. i can't go very fast, but i want to go very fast, and after going down a very shallow (but long) hill with both hands fastened to my skating partner jermok pong and brakes on, i slid down the bottom half of the hill, loved the thrill, and i can't wait to careen into traffic once again. yay! seriously, i really need to stick to flat land, but i did actually jump onto a curb and then jump off of a curb, but only because i wasn't expecting a curb and it was really too late to slow down or turn and i was travelling really fast and i was determined not to fall and beak my dental hands...i'm beginning to really like summer here. afterwards, we sat around on the curb near jermok's place, and had chinese ice tea and chatted about not too much, into midnight and beyond. it was a really good night - hanging around the apartment tenements, loitering on the streets, sitting in sweat, swatting away mosquitoes...

me and rosca cooked for a few of our friends, and tried this ambitious (well, it wasn't too ambitious, but we were cooking for 8 and had to double everything) dish of tomato risotto with mussels and scallops...it was like a parisian day. we went to the market, got our scallops and mussels, our wine and arborio rice (wondering if canaroli would be better) and YUM YUM YUM dairy milk ice cream, cooked up a storm, and became worried a bit because the risotto started to burn at the base of the pan, but we still had to cook it more. my apartment took on a burning smell. our gracious friends, bless them, entered my apartment with exclamations of "something smells great!" when me and rosca had just opened to door to let the burning smell out. we sampled our cooking to see if it tasted like burning, and we weren't sure, because we smelled like burning and the whole kitchen smelled like burning. we dolloped all the stuff onto plates and hoped for the best...

the ice cream, i think (storebought, of course), was the best dish of the evening. and laurie's fruit salad...the risotto, i think, had potential, but risotto, being a sexy italian dish, should be made in small quantities, for two people, couples. meaning, i won't be making that for a long while....aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!!

i've been sleeping about 4 hours a night this week, staying up late gossiping and talking, doing anything but studying for boards, but at work i'm unusually refreshed. make me do the same thing during the year and i can't make it through to one o'clock lecture. go figure!

anyway, i should go try to get through some dental deck materials...
