my favorite trinity friends held our first bridal shower for the very first of us to get married...
the theme was pink, the food was potluck, and there were a few cute and frilly and sheer surprises to be revealed throughout the night (in black, baby! yeah!!!) - all caught on videotape, which is now permanently in bash's possession for future blackmailing potential. i raced around downtown toronto in saturday gathering this and that - a week before i picked up this huge fluffly white bathrobe for bash from caban - this after our bridesmaid trek down yonge and bellair and through the eaton center, trying to agree on which variety of (edible) lingerie to get our blushing bride. eventually, we couldn't decide - our taste (we return to the theme of edible) in thong is incredibly different, i suppose, and we all went solo in that respect. anyway, anticipating that there would be black lace frillies ad nauseum from the rest of them, i decided upon something very modest, very opaque (= no fun). well, it's always returnable...
so, i was responsible for a main dish and champagne, and so i thought there could nothing more fitting that an extra-double order of CRISPY BEEF (YAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!) from rol san...fat-laden, but oh-so tasty (bringing up, again, that beef-in-my-hair story from me and peunice's eating rampage), i know at least rolo was VERY happy to see that beef ("YOU ROCK ELLEN!"). aaaaahahahahhaaaa....that was funny. what other food was there...rolo's veggies and her adorable (all it needs is a hello kitty insignia) rice maker, peunice's really very good thai salad rolls with mango chutney that i can't stop thinking about (must make, must make), reese's raspberry-mango-strawberry salad (must make, drool drool drool) and "is it good? cause it's the first time i've made it!" stirfry, and crispy beef of course, accompanied by the first bottle of veuve cliquot we've ever had all together, if my memory is in the right.
so bash got the requisite frilly sheers and glamorous gowns and short skirt camisoles - but i have to say i really liked reese's present. rolo and reese, earlier in the day, tracked down adam and asked him a series of questions - on camera - about ash and their relationship. such as, "what is your favorite ashley body part?", and before playing the segment, ashley would have to guess his answer, thus testing their couple-ness (drinks and shots and wine were involved in this - the stakes were high, everyone). anyway, i haven't described it well, but it was so sweet (sweeter than the chocolate-covered strawberries, the cupcakes, the sugar cookies all puttogether), so touching, and quite funny...
anyway, i always find a way to be the biggest ass out of all my friends...before dinner serena wanted each of us to tape a message to bashley, and we played this after the adam-20-questions segment. and when faced with a task like that, although there's a lot i want to say (and i think of exactly what i should have said, afterwards, in retrospect), i never think of the right words at the moment. anyway, reese stressed "spontaneous" message, and i had my segment filmed in adam and bash's bathroom (no other room avail), i did some stupid stuff....like, well, i sat in their bathtub, giving bash advice on how to scrub a yellow tub (intended to adam, really), i pretended to "teef" handcream and handsoap, i danced and pranced, and somewhere in there between my own peals of laughter at my own stupidity, i managed a paltry message of good tidings...
we tried on our bridesmaid dresses - they are long and navy blue, with that flowy, draped-like neck i really like...i'm so excited! it's so strange that bash will be no longer a griping, single gal as of two weeks from now. you sort of come to count on your friends as those who will always remain single and (slighly) miserable for as long as you need...
anyway, to top off the night, we made a stab at a lounge/club called seven, attempted planet hollywood, saw horse poo on the ground (and i saw a cute asian in the indian motorcycle cafe lineup), and trudged back in our high heels to what has become our weekend-night-out-sleepover-place - reese's almost lake-front-under-the-skydome condo. in the morning, hungry for food and salivating over the thought of mcgriddle sandwiches from mcdonald's, we rushed out and sped up university (our own molson indy) 15 minutes before the end of breakfast, and ordered 40 dollars worth of food (each meal is like three bucks)(gross, huh?)...a little while ago we went for breakfast at overeasy, a pricey place on bloor, and comparatively, mcdonalds was so much more...satisfying....!!!!
reese once said something that pops back into my mind once in a while. that every time we all get together - it strikes her (and me) as the best time of our lives. there couldn't be a better time than this. this marriage is so wonderful - and will be so wonderful - they love each other very much, and their love is based, i believe, on things beyond things superficial, beyond just each other.
anyway, time for sleepy.
