i found something really cool yesterday...two levels (essentially all to myself) of piano after piano in an air-conditioned building...now that the normal kids are gone, the many practice studios in talbot are mine, mine, mine!!!!! i spent yesterday trying out so many pianos - i think they only have one steinway grand with a sticky key (i don't like their grands much anyway) but their main brand seems to be young chang. they're new and shiny, tolerable in sound, so i played for a few hours and i anticipate i'll be there a lot this summer. it's such a nice return. more than ever it's such a therapeutic, mind-clearing, mind-calming thing...it's my dream to go to the steinway house in new york - apparently there's a woman there who can help you choose a steinway. but she has a real knack for it. when a client comes in, and sits down to try a few steinways, she seems to know whick steinway is for you. she'll write down the serial number on a sheet of paper - and sure enough, that's the one the client ultimately chooses.
